The Homer Foundation is proud to announce that it has received a commendation from the twenty-fifth Alaska State Legislature.  The commendation was sponsored by Representative Paul Seaton, and cosponsored by 48 other legislators in the House and Senate.The commendation recognizes the Homer Foundation for fifteen years of service to the community, stating, “Grants and scholarships made by or through the Homer Foundation in the past fifteen years have been abundant and diverse, benefiting all sectors of the community.”  The commendation goes on to state, “Part of the beauty of the Homer Foundation is that it is one hundred percent locally managed by board members who are very actively involved in identifying local needs and matching funds to worthy projects.” 

The commendation also recognizes the Foundation’s Youth Advisory Committee, stating that, “The biggest success story is the Youth Advisory Committee, which has become a cornerstone for the Homer Foundation…The youth involved on this committee are experiencing first hand the enormous benefits of philanthropy.”

The Homer Foundation’s mission is to enhance the quality of life for the citizens of the greater Homer area by promoting philanthropic and charitable activities.  According to Homer Foundation director, Joy Steward, “That translates to donor services such as providing community knowledge, flexible giving options, and accountability, while the nonprofit sector benefits from our endowment management, technical assistance, and funding opportunities through our various grants programs.”
